Catch the fake carrier before the load leaves

Carrier Lens checks every MC number you look at against FMCSA authority, insurance and census data and overlays a red, yellow or green flag on load boards and in Gmail or Outlook. About half the price of the leading tool, with alerts when a carrier's contacts or insurance change after onboarding.

  • Flags authority under 90 days old, pending insurance cancellations, out-of-service orders and recent changes to the registered phone, email or address
  • Browser overlay for DAT One, Truckstop and webmail; no new tab, no copy-pasting MC numbers
  • Shipper-side check that a broker holds active authority and the $75,000 BMC-84 or BMC-85 bond on file

Why now

Freight fraud grew faster than a small brokerage can hand-check carriers

Double brokering, stolen MC identities and cargo theft all start the same way: a carrier that looks fine for the thirty seconds a dispatcher spends on a load board. The warning signs are public in FMCSA's authority, insurance and census records, but checking them by hand for every carrier on every load is work nobody in a three-person brokerage has time for.

The fraud has moved with the system: when FMCSA changed its registration platform, lookalike sites appeared and FMCSA issued a warning. A carrier whose phone number changed yesterday and whose insurer has filed a cancellation is not necessarily a fraudster, but you want to know before the rate confirmation goes out.

The established vetting tools are priced per seat for mid-size brokerages, which puts a small shop's second dispatcher outside the budget. Carrier Lens is one price for the team, inside the tools you already have open.

How it works

How it works

  1. 1

    Request service

Tell us your MC number, the load boards you use and how many people vet carriers. We confirm by email and set up your account within 2 business days.

  2. 2

    Install the overlay

Add the Carrier Lens extension to Chrome or Edge. It recognises MC and USDOT numbers on DAT One, Truckstop, Gmail and Outlook on the web, and shows a flag beside each.

  3. 3

Click a flag for the detail

A side panel lists each signal: authority date and status, insurance on file and any pending cancellation, out-of-service orders, inspection counts, and whether the contact details in front of you match FMCSA's record.

  4. 4

    Keep watching onboarded carriers

Add the carriers you work with to your watch list. Carrier Lens emails you when their insurance, authority status, phone, email or address changes.

What it does

Features

Authority and status check

Common and contract authority status, grant date, and any revocation or out-of-service order, from FMCSA licensing data refreshed daily. Authority under 90 days old is flagged yellow.

Insurance on file and cancellations

Shows the insurer, the coverage levels on file and any pending cancellation filed with FMCSA, so you see a lapse coming rather than after the fact.

Contact mismatch detection

Compares the email domain, phone number and address in the message or load-board profile with FMCSA's registered contacts and flags differences. Phone numbers shared across many MC numbers are highlighted.

Change alerts on your watch list

Daily checks on carriers you have onboarded; you get an email when registered contacts, insurance or authority status change, with the before and after values.

Browser overlay

A Chrome and Edge extension for DAT One, Truckstop, Gmail and Outlook on the web. It reads only the page you are on and sends only MC and USDOT numbers to our servers.

Broker check for shippers and dispatchers

Enter a broker's MC number and see active broker authority and the BMC-84 bond or BMC-85 trust on file with FMCSA, with the surety's name.

Vetting log

Every check is recorded with the time, the user and the flags shown, exportable as CSV, for when a claim or a customer asks what you knew and when.

Built for

Who it's for

Brokerages with 1–10 staff

You cannot afford a $149 seat per dispatcher, or one double-brokered load. Carrier Lens gives every seat the same checks at a team price.

Newly licensed brokers

You are building a carrier base from scratch, and fraudsters target new authorities. Start with vetting built in instead of adding it after the first loss.

Dispatch services

You book loads for owner-operators and need to vet the brokers you work with. The broker check shows authority and bond status in seconds.

Shippers tendering directly

You hand freight to brokers and carriers without a transportation department. Check bond and authority before the rate confirmation goes out.

Compared with the alternatives

Checking SAFER, L&I and the carrier's website by hand
Free and thorough if you do it every time. In practice it takes several minutes per carrier across three or four sites, so it gets skipped on busy days, which is when fraud happens.
Carrier Assure
An established carrier-scoring tool whose Premium plan is $149 per month for one seat. Its scoring is broader than ours; a four-person office would pay roughly four times what Carrier Lens charges.
Highway and MyCarrierPortal
Identity and onboarding platforms for mid-size and large brokerages, sold through sales teams and integrated with TMS systems. Strong if you onboard hundreds of carriers a month; heavy for a small office.
The load board's built-in carrier info
DAT and Truckstop show basic authority and insurance information inside their boards. Useful, but it does not follow the carrier into your email or alert you when something changes later.

Getting started

Your first week

Install, check, watch. Most teams vet carriers on day one and load their existing carrier base within the week.

  1. Day 1: Request service; we create your account and seats within 2 business days.
  2. Day 2: Install the extension in Chrome or Edge, open your load board and see flags beside MC numbers.
  3. Day 3–4: Import or add the carriers you already work with to the watch list; change alerts start the next morning.
  4. Day 7: Review the week's vetting log with your team and agree a rule for yellow flags.

Security and data

  • Account data, watch lists and vetting logs are stored on servers in the United States, encrypted at rest and in transit.
  • The extension transmits only MC and USDOT numbers and, where enabled, adjacent phone numbers and email domains; never message text or attachments.
  • Each user has an individual login; the account owner can remove a seat instantly, and owner actions and red-flag overrides are logged.
  • On request we delete an account and all its data within 30 days, and automatically 60 days after cancellation.

Questions

If Carrier Lens shows green and the carrier turns out to be a fraudster, who is responsible?

You remain responsible for the decision to tender a load. Carrier Lens reports signals from public FMCSA data and from the page in front of you; it cannot detect every stolen identity or a carrier that turns bad later. It is software, not insurance or legal advice; use it alongside your own judgment and your carrier agreement.

Where does the data come from?

FMCSA's public licensing and insurance records, the SAFER snapshot and census data, refreshed daily. We have no private insurer data or proprietary network scores; what we add is matching, change detection and the overlay.

Does the extension read my email?

The extension scans the page you have open for MC and USDOT numbers and, on the Team and Office plans, for phone numbers and email domains next to them. Only those identifiers are sent to our servers; message bodies and attachments never leave your browser.

FMCSA's new registration system adds identity checks. Won't that end fraud?

It should reduce fake new registrations, which is good for everyone. It does not retroactively verify the existing carrier base, catch a legitimate carrier's stolen credentials, or tell you that insurance was cancelled yesterday.

Which load boards are supported?

DAT One and Truckstop on the web at launch, plus Gmail and Outlook on the web. Any other page works too: paste an MC number into the extension's search box. Other boards are added as founding customers ask.

Can I vet a broker rather than a carrier?

Yes. The broker check shows active broker authority, the bond or trust type (BMC-84 or BMC-85) and the surety on file. It is designed for dispatchers and shippers deciding whether to work with a broker.

What if I cancel?

Export your watch list, notes and vetting log as CSV from your account at any time. Access ends with the billing period and data is deleted 60 days later.
