Outside-in evidence of a brand's discount dependence and range
RivalSweeper records an online brand's public storefront every day: what is on sale and how deep, what was cleared, what was launched or dropped, and how its range compares with peers. It reads public pages only, so it is an outside-in check you run alongside the data room, starting the day you add the target.

The management case says full price. The storefront may say otherwise.
Quality of revenue at a D2C brand often turns on one question: how much was sold at full price. The data room gives management's view of promotions and margin, usually in aggregate and after the fact. What shoppers were actually offered, product by product and day by day, is on the public storefront.
Checking it by hand means screenshots of sale pages at first look and again before signing, with no consistent method between them. That cannot tell you whether a large share of the range sat on markdown for weeks or for a weekend, whether depth increases as stock ages, or whether peers run the same playbook.
Because the record starts when tracking starts, begin at first look or LOI, not in the last week of confirmatory work. Weeks of daily observation are evidence; a screenshot on IC day is an anecdote.
- In the EU, an announced price reduction must show the lowest price applied in at least the 30 days before it (Directive 98/6/EC Art. 6a, inserted by Directive (EU) 2019/2161, applying since 28 May 2022). Source: eur-lex.europa.eu
- On 11 June 2024 the Netherlands ACM fined five online stores a total of EUR 621,000 because their discounts were not based on the lowest price of the prior 30 days. Source: acm.nl
- The FTC's Guides Against Deceptive Pricing expect a former price to be one the item was openly and actively offered at, in good faith, for a reasonably substantial period. Source: ecfr.gov
Without it

- Consumer panel and transaction datasets: Estimate how much a brand sells. They do not show what shoppers were offered or how deep the discount was.

How it runs alongside the process
- 1
Agree the peer set
The target plus the peers the investment thesis is measured against. Pro covers 15 monitored domains.
- 2
Start the record at first look
Add the domains; tracking starts after email confirmation and first data arrives within 24 hours. Prices, stock and catalog are then read daily.
- 3
Read dependence, range and cadence
Markdown share, depth and clearance per brand; new and discontinued SKUs; category coverage against peers, refreshed weekly; market footprint.
- 4
Export for the workpapers
CSV on paid plans, API on Pro. Each figure carries its observation date and product URL, with the method notes behind it.
Features
Discount dependence
Products on sale out of products measured, median and deepest markdown, per brand. Only verified markdowns count: a real drop from a price the product held, never a standing compare-at price.
Clearance signal
Lines marked down 40% or more and now sold out are counted as cleared, separating clearance from promotion.
Effective price, daily
Full price, current price after discounts and stock status per product, compared only with the same product's earlier price.
Launch cadence
New arrivals and discontinued SKUs per brand and launch velocity, deduped across locales and variants.
Range breadth against peers
Category coverage against the whole set, a SWOT read and whitespace scored by how many peers carry a category, refreshed weekly.
Market footprint
Shipping countries, payment methods including BNPL visible on site, currencies and languages per brand, with a dated history of each change.
Guards against false moves
A change counts only when source, market and currency match, and a jump of more than 5x between observations is not treated as a price move.
A discount-dependence read: markdown radar, Oct 15, 2026
A real RivalSweeper sample of four swimwear and resortwear brands, names withheld. Read as diligence: Brand A had 304 of 790 measured products on verified markdown and 4 lines cleared.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brand A | 304/790 | 35% | 73% | 4 |

| Brand C | 30/53 | 30% | 40% | 0 |
| Brand D | 28/82 | 20% | 50% | 0 |
- Only verified markdowns count: a real drop from a price the product held, never a standing 'compare at' price.
- Cleared = marked down 40% or more and now sold out.
- Each price is compared only with the same product's earlier price, in its own currency.

Questions
Do you access any private data from the target?
No. RivalSweeper reads public storefront pages only: no connection to the target's store, analytics or ad accounts. It complements the data room; it does not replace it.
Can we see history from before we started?
Only from the day tracking starts, unless RivalSweeper already monitors the store, in which case history goes back to when that tracking began. Start at first look or LOI.
Does on sale include compare-at prices?
No. Only verified markdowns count: a real drop from a price the product held. A standing compare-at price is not treated as a discount.
Which storefronts are covered?
Brands' own storefronts on Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and other platforms. Price, discount and stock tracking are limited to supported websites, and marketplace sellers are not covered.
Can we cite the figures in an IC memo or report?
Every figure traces to a dated observation and its product URL, with method notes and gaps. RivalSweeper is a data tool, not a diligence provider or financial adviser; how you weigh the figures is your call.
Pro or Enterprise?
Pro covers a target and up to 14 peers with 5 users. Enterprise suits funds tracking several portfolios or live processes, with more users and domains via sales.
