Know your price reductions hold up before anyone asks
RivalSweeper keeps a dated daily price record of your own product pages and tests each promotion against it: the EU 30-day prior price, the recomputed percentage and US former-price duration. A record you can re-check, in place of a screenshot folder.

CJEU, Aldi Süd (C-330/23), 26 September 2024: a percentage reduction or 'price highlight' must be calculated from the 30-day lowest price.
Source: curia.europa.euGermany's BGH (I ZR 183/24, 9 October 2025): advertising a reduction is unlawful if the lowest total price of the prior 30 days is not stated unmistakably, clearly recognizably and legibly.

Legal signs off a promotion from the trading plan: reference price, depth, dates. What gets examined later is the page shoppers saw. Was the displayed prior price really the lowest of the previous 30 days, and was the '% off' computed from it? A theme change, a feed error or an early flash sale can break either without anyone in legal knowing.
The bar has risen. Article 6a has applied since May 2022, Aldi Süd fixed how percentages are calculated, and Germany's Federal Court of Justice has held that the 30-day low must also be shown clearly and legibly. In the US, the FTC asks whether a former price was charged for a reasonably substantial period. When a regulator's letter arrives, a screenshot folder shows a few days, not every day of the look-back.
Without it
- A screenshot folder: Cheap and quick. It shows the days someone remembered, not every day of a 30-day look-back, and it cannot be re-checked.
- Your platform's price logs: Show what was configured, which can differ from what the page displayed after a theme, app or feed change. Worth…
- External counsel review per promotion: Right for novel questions; slow at catalog scale. A record lets counsel focus on the exceptions.

Before launch, after launch, on request
- 1
Start the record
On a free, confidential call we agree which of your product pages, markets and currencies to record. The record starts the day your store is added.
- 2
Check before launch
Planned reference prices and percentages are compared with the lowest price recorded over the last 30 days.
- 3
Check after launch
Displayed claims are set against recorded prices, with the discount recomputed and gaps listed.
- 4
Re-check when asked
Months later, the same products and period can be checked again from the same dated observations.
Features
Your own promotions
Read from your public product pages, as shoppers saw them, not from the back-end price you set.
EU 30-day prior price
The lowest recorded price in the 30 days before each reduction and the date it applied.
Percentage recomputed
The '% off' recalculated from the 30-day low, so a badge that overstates the cut shows on one line.
US former-price context
How long and how recently the reference price was actually charged.
Competitor discount practice
On a monitoring plan, rivals' price and promotion changes surface within 48 hours; only verified markdowns count, never a standing 'compare at' price.
Clean comparisons
Prices are compared only within the same market and currency; a jump of more than 5x is not treated as a price move.
What the audit records for each of your products
Audits are confidential to your company, so no sample is published. Every product record follows this structure.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Product and source | Your product, page URL, market and currency |
| Daily price record | The price on each recorded day, with its date |
| The claim | Your prior price, 'was/now' or '% off' as displayed |
| 30-day lowest prior price | Lowest recorded price in the 30 days before the reduction, and its date |
| Recomputed discount | The discount recalculated from recorded prices |
| Method and gaps | How figures were produced; days without an observation listed |
- History starts when tracking starts; for a new store, the day it is added.

What changed
- Article 6a of Directive 98/6/EC (inserted by Directive (EU) 2019/2161, applied since 28 May 2022): the prior price shown with a reduction is the lowest price applied in at least the 30 days before it. Source: eur-lex.europa.eu

From first call to a standing record
Nothing to install. Start early: a 30-day check needs 30 days of record before the reduction.
- First call: your markets, promotions and what is already recorded.
- Scoping: products, markets and checks agreed; one clear quote.
- Record running: your product pages recorded daily from the day added.
- Delivered: checks per product, with method note and gaps.
Security and data
- RivalSweeper reads public product pages only; no access to your store admin, ad account or analytics.
- Every figure traces to a dated observation and its product URL.
- Days without an observation are listed as gaps; no price is estimated.
- The first call is free and confidential.
Questions
Is this legal advice?
No. This is not legal advice; RivalSweeper is not a law firm, and we do not promise admissibility in any court; that is for counsel to decide. We supply the dated record and the arithmetic.
Does it check how legibly our prior price is shown?
No. We record prices and recompute discounts. Placement and legibility, the BGH point, need a design review of the page.
Can you check a promotion that already ended?
Only if your store was being recorded during it. The record starts the day a store is added and is never filled in backwards.
We sell in the EU and the US. Which rules are tested?
Both: the 30-day lowest prior price and recomputed percentage for EU markets, and how long and how recently the reference price was charged for US markets.
What happens when a price feed glitches?
A jump of more than 5x between observations is not treated as a price move, and days without an observation are listed as gaps.
Do you need access to our store admin?
No. RivalSweeper reads your public product pages, as a shopper sees them. No store, ad account or analytics connection is needed.
