For older adults, and for the children who worry about them

Not sure if it's a scam? Forward it before you click or pay

Scam Second Opinion gives your parents one number to forward anything that feels off: a text about a parcel, an email from the 'bank', a voicemail from a 'grandson' in trouble. Within minutes they get a plain answer, safe, scam or careful, with the reason in simple words. If it's a scam aimed at money or passwords, the family members you choose get a heads-up too.

  • One number for text messages, WhatsApp and email forwarding; no app to install and nothing to learn.
  • Links and attachments checked against known scam databases, plus a person reviewing anything uncertain before the verdict goes out.
  • Answers in plain words with the one thing to do next, like 'delete it' or 'call the bank on the number on your card'.

Why now

Scammers target the people least likely to ask for a second opinion

Older adults report more losses to online fraud than any other age group. The scams are polished: a text from a delivery company, a security alert from the bank, a grandchild who needs bail money tonight. They work because they create urgency and arrive when nobody is around to ask.

Most families' answer is 'call me before you click anything'. It helps until the call goes to voicemail, or until a parent feels embarrassed asking for the fifth time this week. Then the decision is made alone, in a hurry, which is exactly what the scam needs.

Scam Second Opinion is the person to ask that is always available and never impatient. Forward the message, get an answer in minutes, and the family hears about real threats without having to be the help desk.

How it works

How it works

  1. 1

    Save one number

We add a contact called 'Scam check' to your parent's phone during a 10-minute setup call, plus an email address for forwarding. That's the only thing they need to remember.

  2. 2

    Forward anything suspicious

Text, WhatsApp message, email, screenshot or a voice note describing a phone call. No need to explain; just forward it.

  3. 3

    Get a clear verdict

Usually within 10 minutes, 8am to 10pm: safe, scam or be careful, why in one sentence, and the one thing to do next. Uncertain cases are checked by a person.

  4. 4

    Family kept in the loop

If it's a scam asking for money, passwords or remote access, the family members you nominated get a short alert, so someone can call and check in.

What it does

Features

Link and attachment checks

Every link is expanded and checked against public safe-browsing and phishing lists before anyone opens it; attachments are scanned without being opened on the parent's phone.

Human review when unsure

Automated checks handle the obvious cases. Anything ambiguous, like a real-looking bank text, is reviewed by a person before the answer goes back.

Plain-language answers

No jargon: 'This is a scam. The real post office doesn't ask for card details by text. Delete it.' In English, with Spanish and other languages on request.

Family alerts

Up to five family members get a heads-up for high-risk scams, with the original message attached, so a quick call can happen before money moves.

Phone call help

Got a call that felt wrong? Send a voice note describing it. We tell you whether it matches known scam scripts and what to do if details were shared.

What-to-do-now guides

If something was already clicked or paid, step-by-step guidance: call the bank on the number on the card, change the password, report it to the right agency.

Monthly family summary

A short note to the family: how many messages were checked, which scams are going around and one tip for the month.

Compared with the alternatives

'Call me before you click'
Free and personal. Works until you're in a meeting, asleep in another time zone or the third call of the day lands. Scam Second Opinion covers the gaps, and you still hear about anything serious.
Phone carrier spam filters
Built in and worth turning on: they block many known scam numbers. They don't explain why a message is dangerous, and new numbers get through every day.
Antivirus and identity-theft plans
Useful for devices and credit monitoring, typically at a higher monthly price. They rarely give a quick human answer to 'is this text real?'

Getting started

Your first week

We set everything up on a 10-minute call with your parent, within 2 business days of your request.

  1. Day 1: Request the service and choose who gets family alerts.
  2. Day 2: 10-minute setup call: the 'Scam check' contact saved and a test message forwarded together.
  3. Day 3–6: Forward anything that feels off; we answer and adjust the family alert settings if needed.
  4. Day 7: First short summary to the family.

Security and data

  • Forwarded messages are stored encrypted and personal details are deleted after 30 days; scam patterns we keep are stripped of names and numbers.
  • Links are opened only in isolated systems, never on your parent's device or with their accounts.
  • Family alerts go only to people the protected person agreed to, and they can change the list at any time.
  • We never ask for passwords, codes or payment details, and our team cannot see your parent's accounts.

Questions

What happens to the messages we forward?

They are used only to check that message. Personal details are deleted after 30 days, and we never use the messages for advertising or sell them. Family alerts include only the message in question.

How fast is the answer?

Usually within 10 minutes between 8am and 10pm in your time zone. Messages sent overnight are answered first thing in the morning; if it's urgent, the reply tells you how to check directly with the bank or company.

Do you ever ask for passwords or bank details?

Never. If a message claiming to be us asks for a password, a code or a payment, that message is a scam. We say this in the setup call too.

What if my parent already clicked or paid?

Forward it anyway. We tell you exactly what to do next: call the bank on the number on the card, change passwords, and report it to the right agency. On the Two parents plan we stay with you through it.

Does my parent need a smartphone?

Any phone that can forward a text works. Email forwarding works from a computer or tablet. For phone calls, a short voice note or a family member's description is enough.

Can you stop scams from arriving at all?

No service blocks everything. Turn on your carrier's spam filter as well. Scam Second Opinion is for the messages that get through and look real.
