For independent driving schools with 1–5 instructors

Lesson scheduling with pickups, hour logs and certificates, flat price

Lesson Lane lets students book behind-the-wheel lessons online, routes each instructor's day by pickup address, logs the hours your state requires and prints completion certificates from your templates. You set it up yourself in an afternoon and pay one flat monthly price for the whole school, with no per-user fee and no setup fee.

  • Booking slots come from each instructor's availability, the student's pickup point and realistic drive time, so a 2:00 drop-off in one suburb never creates a 2:00 pickup across town.
  • Hour logs record behind-the-wheel and observation time per student with instructor sign-off, exportable as PDF or CSV in your state's field layout.
  • Self-serve setup: import students from a spreadsheet, add instructors and cars, publish your booking page. No sales call required.

Why now

Industry scheduling software starts near $250 a month, which prices out the school with two cars

A small driving school is a scheduling business with cars. Every lesson has a student, an instructor, a vehicle, a pickup address and a drop-off, and most students are teenagers whose parents are juggling the calendar. Owners run it on a paper book, a shared Google Calendar and a lot of texting, and the costly mistakes are the same everywhere: an instructor idle because the next pickup was 25 minutes away, a student whose hours were never logged, a certificate issued late because the records were in the car.

The established software for this industry is built for schools with a fleet. It assumes a minimum number of users, charges per instructor and adds a setup fee, so a one- or two-instructor school pays around $250 a month before scheduling a single lesson. Cheaper tutoring schedulers are priced right but know nothing about pickups, cars, state hour requirements or certificates.

Lesson Lane is for the school with one to five instructors that wants the industry features without the fleet price.

How it works

How it works

  1. 1

    Set up the school yourself

Add instructors, vehicles, lesson types and prices, your service area and your state's hour requirements. Import students from a spreadsheet. Most schools finish in an afternoon.

  2. 2

    Students and parents book online

They choose a lesson type, enter the pickup address, and see only slots that fit the instructor's availability and travel time. They pay by card or draw from a prepaid package.

  3. 3

Instructors run their day from the app

A phone view shows the day's lessons in order with pickup addresses, map links, student notes and the skills to cover. Start and end times are logged with a tap.

  4. 4

    Hours and certificates follow

Each completed lesson adds to the student's hour log; when requirements are met, the school issues a numbered certificate from its template, stored as a PDF.

What it does

Features

Pickup-aware scheduling

Available slots are computed from instructor availability, the student's pickup point and estimated drive time from the previous lesson. Buffers, maximum travel radius and home-base returns are configurable.

Online booking and packages

A booking page for single lessons, packages such as six hours behind the wheel, and classroom sessions, with card payment through Stripe. Parents can book for a student.

State hour logs

Behind-the-wheel, observation and classroom hours per student with date, instructor, vehicle and skills covered. Instructor sign-off on each entry; export as PDF or CSV matched to the fields your state asks for.

Certificates from your templates

Upload your certificate layout or use our generic one; the system fills student, school, hours and dates, assigns a sequential number and stores the PDF. Every issuance is logged for audits.

Instructor mobile app

A web app that works on any phone: today's route, student notes, a skill checklist, start and stop timing, and mileage per vehicle.

Reminders and no-show rules

Text and email reminders 24 hours and 2 hours before each lesson, with your cancellation window and fee policy enforced automatically.

Vehicle tracking

Assign cars to lessons, log mileage, and set reminders for maintenance and inspection dates.

Parent and student portal

Upcoming lessons, hours completed, remaining package balance and certificates, with no app to install.

Built for

Who it's for

Owner-instructor schools

You teach most lessons yourself and schedule between them. Students book online, your day is routed, and the hour log is done when the lesson ends.

Schools with 2–5 instructors

You coordinate several cars and calendars. Lesson Lane prevents overlaps and far-flung pickups and gives you one view of hours and certificates across instructors.

Schools adding teen programs

Teen behind-the-wheel programs come with state hour requirements and parents who want visibility. The portal and hour logs handle both.

Small CDL and truck schools

Range and road time logged with instructor sign-off and vehicle records; the same scheduler with longer lesson blocks and yard pickups.

Compared with the alternatives

DriveScout and other driving-school suites
Built for the industry and more complete than we are today, but DriveScout's published pricing starts with a 5-user minimum at $50 per user plus a $250 setup fee. With a fleet and a need for everything, consider them; with two cars, that math does not work.
TutorBird and general lesson schedulers
Priced for small operators, at $16.95 per month plus $4.95 per extra tutor, and good at scheduling and payments, but they do not handle pickups, vehicles, state hour logs or certificates.
Google Calendar, a paper logbook and texting
Free and familiar. It does not prevent far-apart pickups, does not produce hour records you can hand to a state inspector, and the logbook lives in the car.
Getting started

Your first week

Self-serve setup takes an afternoon; we review your account within 2 business days and build any state-specific layout you need.

  1. Day 1: Add instructors, cars, lesson types and prices; import students; publish your booking page.
  2. Day 2–3: We review your setup, configure your state's hour fields and certificate template, and switch on text reminders.
  3. Day 4–5: First lessons are booked online; instructors run their day from the app and log hours.
  4. Day 7: Check-in on routing buffers, cancellation rules and anything parents asked about.

Security and data

  • Student and school data is stored on servers in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Payment card data is handled by Stripe; we never store card numbers.
  • Instructors see only their own schedule and the students assigned to them; owners control roles and can revoke access immediately.
  • On cancellation you can export all logs and certificates; we keep an archive for 12 months in case an audit requires it, then delete it, or delete sooner on request.

Questions

Does it produce my state's required forms?

Lesson Lane ships with hour logs and a completion certificate template, and exports records as PDF and CSV with the fields most states ask for. Forms differ by state, and some states require their own form or electronic submission. Tell us your state during onboarding; we build state-specific layouts on request for founding customers. You remain responsible for confirming requirements with your state licensing agency.

Is the hour log an official record?

It is a record-keeping tool. Many states accept printed or electronic logs with instructor sign-off; others require their own forms. Lesson Lane is software, not legal or regulatory advice. Verify what your state requires and keep whatever official documents it mandates.

How does pickup routing work?

When a student books, the system looks at the instructor's previous and next lesson locations and uses map drive-time estimates to show only slots the instructor can actually reach. You set buffers, a maximum travel radius and whether the instructor returns to base.

Can I really set it up without a call?

Yes. Setup is self-serve with a checklist and short videos, and most schools finish in an afternoon. We also onboard new accounts within 2 business days and will walk through it with you by email or a 30-minute call if you prefer.

Are there per-instructor fees or a setup fee?

No. Plans are flat per school and include a set number of instructors (1, 5 or 10). Students, parents and bookings are unlimited on every plan.

What about cheaper tools I might find?

There may be some. Compare on pickup-aware scheduling, state hour logs, certificates and the instructor app, and on whether the price stays flat as you add instructors. If something else fits better, no contract holds you here.

Can parents book and pay for a teen?

Yes. A parent account can hold several students, book lessons, buy packages and view hours and certificates.

How quickly can we go live?

You can publish your booking page the day you sign up. We onboard new accounts within 2 business days, importing your students and checking your state's log layout with you.
